What financial support is available?

If you’re a home fee-paying student, you might qualify for a bursary or scholarship. You don’t have to pay this money back unless your circumstances change. This money is paid directly from us and is in addition to government funding.

We want to break down barriers to the live events industry. We believe that it all starts with better access to education. We aim to actively support access to our courses from applicants who are underrepresented in higher education and need extra financial support. It’s why we’ve created a range of bursaries to support students during their studies.

Please note, all bursaries and scholarships are subject to change each year.

Which funding is right for me?

  • Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic Background Students

The XPLOR Your Future Bursary is available for students from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic background to support the transition into study.

Each successful recipient will receive a total sum of £400 over the course of the first academic year of study, subject to the continued fulfilment of the terms and conditions of the bursary.

  • Disabled Students

The Production Park Bursary is available for full-time undergraduates with a diagnosed disability, including physical, sensory, learning difficulties (including specific learning difficulties), mental health or long-term illness.

Each successful recipient will receive a total sum of £300 over the course of the first academic year of study, subject to the continued fulfilment of the terms and conditions of the bursary.

  • Mature Students

The Brooks Bursary is available for full-time undergraduate students who are 21 years old or above at the start of the course.

Each successful recipient will receive a total sum of £300 over the course of the first academic year of study, subject to the continued fulfilment of the terms and conditions of the bursary.

Please note, that to apply for this bursary, you must not be in receipt of any other Academy of Live Technology financial award.

  • Independent Status & Care Experienced Students

Every year, we offer the Production Park Scholarship to cover tuition fees for one home-fee paying student.

The Production Park Scholarship is designed to support individuals who have been awarded Independent Status by Student Finance England (SFE), Wales and Northern Ireland. In awarding the scholarship, priority will be given to Care Leavers.

The scholarship covers the tuition fees for the student’s remaining period of study, which is the equivalent value of £9,000 for a maximum of three years. This is subject to the continued fulfilment of the terms and conditions of the scholarship.

The Production Park Scholarship is a grant, so does not need to be repaid.

Hardship Fund

The Academy of Live Technology Hardship Fund is available to support students with essential living costs to ensure your studies are not impacted. You may be eligible to receive a one-off payment if you are experiencing unforeseen financial difficulties.

You are able to apply for hardship support if you are fully registered on an undergraduate or postgraduate course. There are several requirements you must usually have met before we are able to consider your application. These include:

  • Making all possible arrangements to secure available / statutory funding
  • That you have sought Money Advice and / or completed a budgeting exercise
  • Your spending habits must show that you understand the principles of good money management, you have not been frivolous, and you have tried to spend within your means

How to apply

  • First year students

If you’re a first-year student, you’ll be automatically assessed for any bursary or scholarship eligibility when you apply for student finance. You do not need to fill out a separate application. If you are eligible for a bursary or scholarship, our Student Support and Experience team will notify you when you’ve enrolled onto your course.

  • Returning students

If you are a returning student in your second or third year, any bursaries are subject to review by our Senior Leadership Team. This is dependent on the remaining funding availability. The award of a bursary is at our discretion, and we reserve the right to change the bursary to change.
