Overview

Academy of Live Technology offers a range of industry focused undergraduate and postgraduate degrees for individuals who want to create the world’s greatest entertainment experiences. We’re delighted to welcome international students, embracing the diverse perspectives and fresh ideas they contribute to our community.

We understand that preparing to study abroad involves navigating various requirements and decisions, and our team is here to guide international students throughout the process. Starting with English language requirements, we offer clear guidance on required levels and accepted language qualifications, ensuring you’re set up to succeed academically. We also support students with visa requirements by providing up-to-date information on the application process, timelines, and any additional fees, like the CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) and NHS health fees, which are necessary for visa compliance.

Understanding financial requirements is essential, so we walk students through tuition fees, payment methods and schedules, and personal finance expectations for UK study.

Our goal is to make your transition to the Academy smooth and straightforward, so feel free to reach out to us for any additional guidance or resources tailored to your journey.

English Language Requirements

To succeed in your chosen course at ALT, you’ll need a strong command of English. If you require a UK Student Visa, you must meet the UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) minimum B2 standard on the CEFR scale. Learn more on the government website here: Student via: Knowledge of English.

We accept all UKVI-approved Secure English Language Tests (SELT). More details are available here: English language test.

For undergraduate courses (BA and FdA) you will need a minimum score of IELTS 6.0 overall, with no less than 5.5 in each component, or a SELT equivalent to this score.

For postgraduate programmes (MA and MSc) you will need a minimum score of IELTS 6.5 overall, with no less than 6.0 in each component, or a SELT equivalent to this score.

External English tests may have a 2-year validity period.

Visa Requirements

  • Overview

If you do not hold a British or Irish passport, you’ll likely need a Student Visa. For the latest information and costs, refer to the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) website: Student Visa - GOV.UK

As a registered sponsor, ALT will issue your CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) to begin your visa application once you have:

    •   An unconditional offer from ALT
    •   Provided a copy of your passport
    •   Paid a tuition deposit
    •   Sufficient funds for tuition and living costs for the first year
    •   Met the English language requirement

  • eVisas

The UK Government is urging all those across the UK who use a physical immigration document to take immediate action to transition to an eVisa, as part of plans to digitise the UK border and immigration system.  Information on what students need to do and by when, including for students who currently hold a physical immigration document is available here: Gov.UK/eVisa.

  • VISA application deadline

You will need to apply for your visa about 3 months before your course begins in September.  Late applications may delay your entry to the UK, and you may not receive permissions in time for you to start your studies.

Tuition Fees

For undergraduate and postgraduate study, our tuition fees are £20,000 for the academic year 2025-26.

Your tuition fee is fixed for each year you study with us.  After you have been made an offer, we will request a £4,000 deposit, payable by 31st May 2025. The remaining tuition fee for that year is payable at the start of the teaching year on or before enrolment.  Our terms and conditions are provided to you with your offer of study.

The CAS fee is £25.00.  This is set by the UKVI.  This fee will be invoiced alongside your tuition fee deposit.

UKCISA provides information on tuition fees to help you assess your fees status. This guide should give you a clear idea of whether you have a home or overseas student status.

How to Pay? When to pay?

  • Deposits

The deposit payment is £4,000 for international students.  The advance payment means we know you can demonstrate you are carefully planning and preparing for the costs of a degree.

This advance payment does not change your course tuition fees and will be deducted from your tuition fee amount.

Once you have met all the conditions of your offer, the Admissions team will be in touch to arrange for you to make payment.

For any queries related to deposit payments please contact admissions@altech.ac.uk

  • Payment in full

Full payment of your tuition fees for the academic year, less the deposit, is due by 31 August. Please include the full name of the student and the course with your payment.

Please note that it can take up to two weeks to receive a bank transfer, therefore please make sure that you send the money in plenty of time to be able to meet any deadlines. Bank charges may be deducted from the payment received into the Academy’s bank account and you will be responsible for any underpayment of tuition fees as a result of this. In order to avoid underpayment of tuition fees you must arrange for the bank charges to be paid at the time of transfer from your own bank account. From overseas bank accounts, please make the payment in GBP sterling.

If you wish to discuss an instalment plan, please contact admissions@altech.ac.uk.  An instalment plan is only considered on a case-by-case basis.

Personal finance requirements

  • Personal finance requirements

'Financial requirements' refers to the need to show that you have enough money to pay for your course fees and your living costs. The UKVI calls this the 'financial requirements'. The government website has further information: Financial evidence for Student and Child Student visa applicants - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).

If you are applying from outside the UK or if you have been living in the UK with immigration permission for less than 12 months, you must meet the following financial requirements:

  • Course fees

You must have enough money to pay for the course fees for the first year of your course, or the entire course if it is less than one year long. The UKVI will use the details in your CAS to confirm how much money you need for your course fees.

  • Living Costs

The UKVI uses fixed amounts, which may or may not reflect your actual living costs.

For study in the UK (outside London), the monthly amounts you will need are £1,136 for each month of your course, and up to £9,207 for a course lasting nine months or more.

Use the course start and end dates on your CAS to calculate the length of your course and therefore how many months' maintenance you will need. If the length of your course includes a part of a month, round it up to a full month.

  • Deductions

You can deduct the money that you have already paid to the Academy towards your course fees  from the total amount of money that you need as part of your immigration application.

You cannot deduct any advance payment for housing, nor can you adjust the amounts if you will have no housing costs (for example if you will be living with a relative free of charge).

Your CAS may include details of any money paid to your institution.  If not, you will need to provide a paper receipt confirming how much you have paid towards your course fees and/or your accommodation fees.

Further details can be found on the UKCISA website: UKCISA - international student advice and guidance - Student route: eligibility and requirements and on the government website: Student visa : Money you need - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
