Why should I consider gaining the IECC qualification?

IECC is the perfect stepping stones to a career in the Live Events and Creative Industries.  It gives you the essential industry recognised 'Safety Passport' for venues across the planet, It ensures you have the vital knowledge on how to navigate the 'Gig' economy, and allows you to stretch your creative muscles with event design, operation and understanding.

And if you're already in the industry, then this ticks your continuous professional development (CPD) boxes; keeping you uptodate with the latest technologies and advancements, whilst demonstrating your competence.

What are the different levels of IECC?

Level 1. - Safe On-site.  - IECC SO

Level 2. - Competent Event Crew  - IECC CEC

Level 3. - Skilled Event Crew  - IECC SEC (includes area/s of specialism)

Level 4. - Expert Event Crew  - IECC EEC (includes area/s of specialism)

How can I gain an IECC competence card?

To apply for the IECC competence card simply complete the application form.  You will need to supply evidence that you have carried out a qualifiying training course within the last 3 years.  (the card is dated from your course completion date)

There are many opportunities to complete qualifying courses, both in-person and blended online.

We currently have training centres in Yorkshire & North London with the Academy of Live Technology.  With courses soon to launch in USA and EMEA.

How much does it cost?

To register for the card itself and to be added to the IECC database simply costs £40.  This will need to be renewed every 3 years.

The IECC courses vary depending on your circumstances.  Fully funded places for Level 2 courses are available.

What will the IECC competence card enable me to do?

There a many opportunities for you!   Once you've completed a course and joined the database you will have gained a seriously useful qualification.  The kinds of things people have gone on to do are:

  • Starting a career working as part of a live events team. 
  • Travelling to places across the world and putting your skills to good use through the network of approved employers! 
  • Gaining more experience with volunteer roles. 
  • Working with local crewing companies on major arena shows. 
  • Applying for more training through the foundation, degree and masters courses at ALTech.  Or applying for apprenticeships with some of our partners. 
  • Becoming their own boss - Starting a business in the creative industry or self employment.  

What will I learn through the courses?

All of the IECC qualifying courses will enable you to learn the core competencies to be a member of an event crew.

IECC Level 1. - Core Competencies

  • International Live Events - An overview of context and awareness 
  • Event Health & Safety Certification, including Manual Handling and Safe Load/Unload Procedures 
  • Event Crew Professionalism and Etiquette

IECC Level 2. - Core Competencies (in addition to Level 1.)

  • Introduction to Basic Rigging Skills 
  • Introduction to Electrical Systems
  • Introduction to Sound System Deployment 
  • Introduction to Lighting System Deployment 
  • Introduction to Video System Deployment 
  • Thriving in the 'Gig' economy - Top 5 keys to success for self employment and creative business


How Long does the IECC competence card last?

The IECC competence card lasts for 3 years, after this you will need to supply evidence that you are uptodate with the latest legislation and requirements, and apply for your new card.
